DAY 1 | LISBON - VILA NOVA DA BARQUINHA - TOMAR - OURÉM - FERREIRA DO ZÊZERE

The main monument of the small village is the Tower of Dornes or Pentagonal Tower, which was built by Gualdim Pais, Grand Master of the Order of the Templars in Portugal, and founder of the city of Tomar.

Then, we head to Tomar, a city with a long history linked to the foundation of Portugal and, above all, to the Templar Knights. It was from this city that the Order of the Temple ruled a large part of the Center of Portugal.

Aldeia do Mato, with a beautiful autumn sunset, included on the bank of the river Zêzere, is more popular during the summer, when hundreds of visitors invade the river pool located in the Castelo de Bode reservoir.

Vila Nova da Barquinha is a beautiful village, the seat of the municipality, located in the fertile and green Ribatejo countryside. The main attractions of the region are the wonderful and enigmatic Castelo de Almourol and the Igreja Matriz de Atalaia.

Ourém is a prosperous city, both ancient (with a castle) and modern (with long avenues). The city of Ourém is the seat of the judicial district (with a court).

DAY 2 | POMBAL - LEIRIA - BATALHA - PORTO DE MÓS - ALCOBAÇA

Pombal is a land of history, legends and illustrious people. The great Marquis of Pombal, the historian and writer João de Barros, the politician Mota Pinto, among many others. Pombal was founded by Dom Gualdim Pais, Grand Master of the Order of the Templars, who had his castle built.

Between the Castle and the river Lis was born and grew Leiria.

In love with two rivers, Lis and Lena, extending over the golden sands of the Atlantic, populated by beautiful forests, the city of Leiria provides those who visit unforgettable places of rare charm.

Capital of the district, the attraction for the municipality of Leiria is in sight: rivers, beach, pine forest, lagoons, salt pans, rock shelters, architecture, the monumentality of medieval buildings, museums, thermal baths, popular traditions in their purest manifestations, handicrafts.

The route continues through the Monastery of Batalha, built by King D. João I to commemorate the victory over the Castilians in the Battle of Aljubarrota, in 1385. The Monastery is one of the masterpieces of Gothic art.

Initially an Arab fortress, the role of the Porto de Mós castle was striking during the period of the Christian conquest. After successive guerrillas between Portuguese and Moors, in 1148, D. Afonso Henriques, aided by D. Fuas Roupinho, ended up taking over the village and defeating the Saracen troops, commanded by King Gámir de Mérida.

In 1385, the castle of Porto de Mós once again played a decisive role in what would become a landmark in the history of Portugal, the Battle of Aljubarrota, by hosting the troops of Mestre de Avis and D. Nuno Álvares Pereira in the previous nights to the battle, during which the war strategies that would give the country definitive independence were planned.

Finally, discover one of Portugal's most significant medieval monuments, the Monastery of Alcobaça. Built in 1178 by the Cistercian monks and consecrated in 1252, the monastery is a striking example of the transition style from Romanesque to Gothic in Portugal.
