Portalegre

PORTALEGRE

Portalegre is a Portuguese district that belongs integrally to the sub-region and Intermunicipal Community of Alto Alentejo. It has the Castelo Branco district to the North, Spain to the East, the Évora district to the South and the Santarém district to the West.

Located in the heart of the São Mamede Mountain Range, considered a natural Park, and near the Spanish border, the Portalegre district belongs mostly to the traditional province of Alto Alentejo. Here, we find some of the most beautiful towns in the country, such as Crato, Alter do Chão and Elvas. Travel through the wine route of North Alentejo, since Marvão to Sousel and stroll along the waterfronts of Montargil Dam.
