LISBON
Lisbon is the political centre of Portugal, the place of the headquarters of the Government and the presidential residency.
The administrative status of the capital was originally granted by Julius Caesar, as a Roman municipality. The emperor proudly added to the word “Olisipo”, which is the origin of the city’s name, the designation “Felicitas Iulia” as a tribute to the goddess “Juliana”. Few cities in the world can be proud of being the birthplace and the almost exclusive home of a musical genre, especially of one considered Intangible Cultural Heritage, like Fado.
